For about three years the world has been faced with the reality of COVID-19, but the World Health Organization (WHO) is now considering ending its designation of the pandemic as a public health emergency of international concern.

The organization first referred to it as such in January 2020 and for some countries, it helped justify and direct how resources would be used to prevent further infection.

As Katherine Ward explains, ending such a declaration could allow some governments to withdraw resources allocated to COVID, but experts say should such a change occur people should not be lulled into thinking COVID-19 is gone.
