Months ago there were reports of a small subset of those being treated with Paxlovid experiencing rebound symptoms after treatment and recovery. More recently, a new study came out investigating rebound and recurrence of symptoms in those who did not get treatment finding almost half of those who recovered within 28 days reported some degree of recurrent symptoms within the next week or two. These symptoms were most often mild including cough, headaches, muscle aches, runny nose, and sore throat with some having recurrence of shortness of breath or gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea and nausea. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama…
Comparing this to rebound and recurrent symptoms after Paxlovid, we discuss the possible mechanism for why some get recurrent or rebound symptoms including a new study that found those after Paxlovid reporting rebound symptoms actually had a more robust immune response to initial infection rather than less. There was also no evidence of viral mutations leading to resistance from Paxlovid. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/findi…
