Formidable New COVID19 Therapeutic Neutralizes All Variants – Monoclonal Antibody/Vaccine Potential

A new COVID-19 therapeutic discovered using a mouse model was found to neutralize all tested COVID-19 variants, including Wuhan, Alpha, Delta, Omicron (BA.1, BA.2, BA.4, BA.5). The researchers found a monoclonal antibody that targeted a different area of the virus than many of the previous monoclonal antibodies. It inhibited SARS-CoV-2’s ability to fuse with the human cell wall, rather than many of the previous antibodies that inhibited the virus’s ability to bind to the human cell receptors. Given this, it has robust treatment potential for current and future variants. Additionally, some have postulated whether this would be a better vaccine target that may eliminate the need to have booster vaccinations.
