The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic held its second hearing Tuesday on the origins of COVID-19. One of the witnesses testifying, former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, told the panel that “a lab leak is the only explanation credibly supported by our intelligence.” Another witness, Mark Lowenthal, who served as vice president of the National Intelligence Council, reminded lawmakers that there has not been “sufficient intelligence” to “make a firm judgment” on the origins of the virus. He noted that several U.S. intelligence agencies have assessed, with low confidence, that COVID originated naturally.
