As the years go on since the first COVID-19 infections, we are starting to gather more and more data on the longer term effects of infection. A new study looking at over 6 million people identified a possible link between previous COVID-19 infection and the development of Alzheimers Disease, a form of dementia. https://content.iospress.com/download…

This isn’t the first study looking on this topic, but it is one of the more robust. A previous study actually found an increased risk of both Alzheimers Disease and Parkinsons Disease in those with previous COVID-19 infection. There are several hypothesized mechanisms including direct viral invasion through olfactory nerves, the nerves that sense smell, direct viral invasion through the blood brain barrier, or inflammatory cells directly entering the brain. https://content.iospress.com/download…
